Information to Gather Before Reporting Your Claim

Policy details

  • Policyholder’s name
  • Property address
  • Policy number, if available

Loss details

  • Date and approximate time
  • Brief description of what happened
  • Areas of the property affected

Tip: Accuracy Is More Important Than Certainty

If you are not 100% certain about a fact, it is okay to say, “I don’t know.” Tell the insurer what you directly observed, identify every area you know may be affected, and avoid guessing about the cause or using technical terms you are unsure about.

Do not minimize the visible scope. If six rooms may be affected, identify all six rather than reporting only the two with obvious damage. Early claim information may influence the insurer’s initial reserve and response. Also, similar-sounding terms can have different coverage implications—for example, a plumbing backup may be treated differently from an overflow. Describe what happened in plain language and let qualified professionals determine the technical cause and terminology.

Frequently Asked Questions

It does not hurt to call Kapi Restoration first. We can help you assess the apparent scope and urgency before you decide whether filing a claim makes sense. Some losses may be smaller than the deductible or potential premium impact warrants, while certain causes—such as long-term seepage—are commonly excluded. A claim that is opened and then denied may still become part of your claim history. If there is an active emergency, prioritize safety and reasonable steps to prevent additional damage.
Kapi Restoration cannot file the insurance claim on your behalf. However, we often assist customers by calling the insurer together with the policyholder so the loss is described accurately, all known affected areas are identified, and the insurer receives the correct restoration-related information. The policyholder remains the person reporting and authorizing the claim.
Many insurance groups issue policies through affiliated underwriting companies. Search using either the consumer brand or the full company name shown on your declarations page.
No. This is an independent consumer resource. Inclusion does not indicate endorsement, partnership, preferred-vendor status, or authorization to represent the insurer.
Each entry displays its most recent review date. Because insurers may change phone numbers, websites, eligibility, or procedures, confirm information on the insurer’s official website and your policy.
